Cat Walk Curls Rock

I'm having mixed feelings towards my hair this morning. Mainly because I'm frustrated that I don't know how to style it, but I just have to keep reminding myself that it is day three of my hair discovery and there are bound to be bumps in the road.

Let me start out by saying that I do not know how many times I should be washing my hair now that it is curly. I've watched some YouTube tutorial videos with women who are full black and they wash their hair every 3-4 days, but seeing that I am mixed, my hair is slightly different than theirs. When my hair is straight, I wash it every 4 days, which is perfect, but with my hair being curly, I just assume that I can wash it every day since I cannot restyle the curls dry the next day. The shampoo issue confuses me as well. With straight hair, I always used "Caucasian" hair products, such as Pantene Pro-V Nature Fusion, mainly because it was cheap and it dried my hair out enough to keep it from looking extremely oily the first day I ironed it. A few things have recently been brought to my attention:

1). Switching up the washing regimen is good for hair so it doesn't get used to what you're doing to it. Coincidentally I have just learned this about exercise, I must constantly trick my body and switch up the exercises so it doesn't plateau, but I didn't know I HAD TO DO IT WITH MY HAIR, TOO!

2). Try staying away from sulfates and alcohol because they dry out the hair. I never really read my shampoo and conditioner ingredients (shame on me), I just knew I preferred Pantene-Pro V Ice Shine and Nature Fusion because they give my hair the right kind of texture that I'm going for.

So I'm now on the search for new shampoos with lower to zero sulfate in them. Currently, I am using KMS Shampoo and conditioner because it was a gift and I don't hate it, but I don't completely love it either.
I have heard about Carols Daughter from a friend who helped me figure out some products last week when I was figuring out how I wanted to deal with my curls. I am going to Sephora tomorrow to pick up the Hair Milk Original Curl Defining Trio which includes shampoo, conditioner, and curl booster. The description on Sephora.com says that it does not contain sulfates, parabens, synthetic dyes, or tricloscan. I am looking forward to my Sephora haul tomorrow.

As for today, I used a new product, TiGi Bedhead's Cat Walk Curls Rock curl booster in addition to John Freida's Dream Curls and my Moroccan Oil. My hair felt a little crunchy as it dried, which I was not loving. I have a specific idea for my hair, call me an idealist, but I want no frizz and no crunch.

I started off this morning by combing my hair and parting it, don't mind my face, I look tired:

My hair is very strange because of all the flat ironing I've done to it, it's really pretty waves on top and then more of the kinky curl underneath. I'd like to figure out how to get the waves to be all over my head.

I once again sprayed Dream Curls throughout my hair and then combed it through. Once I was finished with that, I sectioned my hair into 2 parts and did a half pump of Moroccan oil, combing it through my hair with my hands. Then I added the Cat Walk Curls Rock:

It kind of looks like a graduation cap on top, that's just the foam from the spray, but the little half pump was good for half of my hair, then I did another pump for the other half. After all of these products I added, I scrunched my hair on each side until the curls looked just how I wanted.

Don't mind my face, I can't help but make weird ones when taking photos of myself:
I was pretty happy with the way my hair looked after styling it. As I already said, I didn't really enjoy the crunchy feel to it that developed about 20 minutes later, but as it has been drying, it has worn off a bit. The frizz is completely controlled, which I am very happy about.

It has dried even more since then, as you can see, there are straight pieces in the front where my bangs are because of my straightening.

I do not know whether it is the Dream Curls that made my hair crunchy (the bottle says it does not have alcohol, but I can remember it making it feel a little stiff during prior uses), or if it was the Cat Walk Curls Rock product. I think I will try using one without the other to see. I'll post the updates on this issue, as well as information about the goodies I get tomorrow at Sephora!
